Geneva's Leading: Pour un Genève où il fait bien respirer For a Geneva where breathing is good. Geneva's Breathing ![]() World Health Organisation: Framework Convention on Tobacco Control INB Document Center | Tobacco is just a simple plant. Smoking tobacco can be pleasurable, for a while. But it is very difficult to quit again. However, smoking kills smokers and passive smokers. Smokingis bad for all age groups. Smoking and availability restrictions for young people only reinforces the appeal of smoking. Manyknow that youngsters difficultly resist the lure of glamorous tobacco propaganda. Few peopleknow that smokers are only a small minority of less than one fifth of the population of all ages (1.1 billion out of 6+ billion). Few people know that the cost of smoking is much higher than any revenue in taxes. Yet smokers seem to assume they may smoke everywhere and at any time when it is not expressly forbidden. Much attention is paid to the evil of the tobacco industry and their valued customers. Little is done about the protection of a healthy and safe smokefree environment, both indoors and outdoors, for the normal-breathing people. Since we have only 24 hours per day and limited resources we should choose the most cost-effective strategies. We must set the agenda. We don't need the drug manufacturers. ecoglobe believes we should focus on the protection of the majority and stop the endless debates with the tobacco industry. We do not believe in the victimisation of smokers and other drug addicts. Any laws and regulations that differentiate between children and adults should be repealed. Our strategy should be the strict application of existing environmental and health protective laws, as well the creation of additional laws and measures. Smokers and smartlifers alike can be supported by the creation of safe and smokefree environments and physically separate smokers' rooms. All smoking propaganda must be outlawed, in any form, advertisements, billboards, direct and indirect sponsorships, texts, music, imagery, branding, smoking people in the media, etc. Not only the tobacco companies, but also the media must become legally accountable for breaking such laws. The message should be positive, convincing that there is a good life breathing normal air. ecoglobe offers a special reward to the person who finds the right terminology that defines "non-smokers" as "healthy breathers", "oxy-people", "smart respirators", "smartlifer" or the like. Who could create a tune and the imagery that can become "the wave of today"?(The silly "non-smoker" label is in itself smoke propaganda and defines people as if smoking were the norm).
