A future with New Mobility umverkehR
or with a globalised traffic jam?


The Swiss Citizens' Initiative requests halving of private motorised road traffic over ten years. Its' a modest demand, given the multiple increases in cars, trucks, roads, noise, air pollution, millions of road deaths, multi- millions of disabled and injured people because of road accidents.

Actually, there's little need to repeat what is evident: New roads leads to more road traffic. (Some "specialists" and magistrates still deny this empirical fact.). The bottle-neck eliminated at one place leads to a traffc jam at another point. It's a vicious circle.

We know that the Earth is finite, space is becoming more and more restrained. The environmental developments are still "up": more carbondioxide, more asthma, climate change.

Why mention it all again? Most people recognise the connection between the issues and they see the larger picture. This picture is

Let's rethink our priorities and find better ways to structure our society. We do not depend on cars. But we do depend on a healthy environment.
