ecoglobe [eco-globe - a blue planet with green continents, 23K] New Mobility - bicycling"

This sign Swiss bicycle sign' denotes the many bicycle routes in Switzerland
That mountanous country has an active and well-organised bicylce lobby. The Siss use the bicycle, like in the Netherlands, for getting from one place to another. In some cities leading politicians set an example. In many cases the bicycle trip is faster than taking public transport. The below map shows the country with the major routes that connect cities.

The Netherlands is the traditional bicycle country. Eeverybody used to use the bicycle, in any time of the year, even for commuting up to 15 kilometers one way. But the carification of society has led to a new generation of traffic planners that care for cars in the first place. One account (with map) of the results of this planning can be found at the web site of the enfb in The Hague
The map of the Netherlands is for touristic cycling, which has also a great tradition in the Netherlands. The ANWB - Algemene Nederlandse Wielrijdersbond (General Dutch Bicyclers Society) cares more for cars.
The enfb - Eerste Nederlandse Wielrijdersbond has a heavily pedalling cyclist to guide you back to the previous page. The movement has tradition: in the flat Dutch countryside it always seems as if the wind has just turned, again against the direction one wants to go.
